We've published the EIP Champion's Handbook, a new resource for anyone looking to champion an EIP through the Ethereum protocol process.

Why a handbook?

Championing an EIP is a meaningful commitment. You're the point person who keeps a proposal moving — coordinating implementations, surfacing concerns, building shared understanding across client teams, and staying engaged across calls and async channels.

The 2026 Champion Guide on GitHub covers the process mechanics well. The handbook brings that content together with new guidance in a more accessible format.

What's new: strengthening your proposal

The handbook includes a new section on Strengthening Your Proposal, focused on a gap we've observed: the distance between an EIP being technically sound and it actually seeing ecosystem adoption.

Some EIPs need voluntary buy-in from wallets, dApps, L2s, and infra providers to be useful. When those teams haven't been consulted before CFI, champions can find themselves months into implementation only to discover adoption isn't coming.

The new guidance introduces a lightweight framework for thinking about your EIP's relationship to demand:

  • Tier A (Demand-Dependent): Features that need ecosystem integration. We recommend gathering structured stakeholder evidence.
  • Tier B (Exploratory): New primitives where demand can't be measured yet. A compelling thesis is the goal.
  • Tier C (Protocol-Internal & Security): No stakeholder evidence needed.

For Tier A and B EIPs, we recommend assembling a short Brief — about one page — that documents what the EIP enables from a user's perspective, what stakeholders told you, and what the adoption path looks like.

This isn't a requirement. It's guidance from Protocol Support on what we've seen make proposals stronger.

The full handbook covers both the ACD process mechanics (stages, calls, implementation requirements) and the stakeholder evidence approach (tiering, the brief template, conversation tips).
